Hello everyone! I am new to the group but I do like Chaplin. I was just wondering what the best film that he made was. I would like to buy some in the near future. Thank you. Brian Baillargeon

Welcome Brian. Chaplin wanted to be remembered for _The Gold Rush_, which is quite excellent. However, you will find that all Chaplin fans have their own personal favorites. Mine is _City Lights_. Happy watching!

Hi, Brian!

My favourite Chaplin film is _The Circus_. Generally I like his features better than the shorts.

I don't think anyone could lose on _The Kid_, _The Gold Rush_, _City Lights_, or _Modern Times_. And there are many, many others that are enormously enjoyable to watch

THE CIRCUS *is* generally considered underrated but I still find it an interesting choice

Let's just say that it involved CC and his girlfriend fearing they were in trouble, and Stan offering them his entire savings if they needed it. If you want the whole story, I suggest you read the chapter on Chaplin in _Six Men_. It's full of interesting stuff.

My favourite is 'Circus' - funny, touching, sentimental and a true tribute to the art of clowning.

_The Circus_ has just the right amount of pathos to make it believable.

I don't use Laurel and Hardy as a yardstick when I'm watching another film. I'm not constantly making comparisons. Is _The Circus_ better than the best of Laurel and Hardy? I don't know. They're two different things.

QT!

This got me thinking about the parallel films that Charlie and Laurel & Hardy made. Call them cinemadoppelgangers.

Easy Street....................Midnight Patrol The Adventurer.................Second Hundred Years The Kid........................Pack Up Your Troubles The Gold Rush..................Way Out West The Circus.....................The Chimp City Lights....................Flying Deuces (suicide in the canal scenes) City Lights....................Battle of the Century, Any Old Port (boxing scenes)

I'm sure members of this group can come up with more.

Isn't that stretching the imagination just a little, Rob? They may share a few details but they are hardly parallel films.
