I'm writing an essay on th film music of The Great Dictator, and wondered what does the allusion 'Tomania' (or Ptomania) refer to. I found one word in a Norwegian encyclopedia, but i'm afraid it's not that one. Help here would be appreciated

Like many of CC's associations, this verbal pun also is about food. The reference is undoubtedly to ptomaine poisoning, a kind of digestive disorder or food poisoning one would get from eating putrid or rancid food. This is a perfect example of how rapidly Chaplin's universality is diminished when he is confined by a specific language.

Bear in mind that many of the names in the film have to do with food
