hello,

i recently came across an article in the Independent (uk) about the newly discovered charlie chaplin film that was accidently bought on ebay.

the story is an intriguing one but what has actually interested me most was a reference at the end of the article:

"There are a number of these compilation films around, and in Senegal there were a number of films that had been cut together by other people using Chaplin footage," said Mr Louvish. "Keystone Pictures was going bust at the time and footage from these Chaplin films was freely available."

i was wondering if anyone on the forum had heard about such films and knew of anywhere could find information on them, maybe even see a couple.

I have not. But now I have, thanks to you. This is really interesting. Was this article in the Independent perhaps available on Internet and if so could you place a link to it?

Hi there I have just returned from the USA and have been blown away by all the publicity about my find. I was in America to film parts for a documentary ( little bit off the wall) about this amazing short film. We are currently running a twitter as "lostfilmproject" if you would like to know more. I would like to give you the benefit of the knowledge that we have gleaned thus far: Obviously we have an advantage because we have had the opportunity to see and research the film in much greater depth than the experts who have offered opinions. "Zepped" is a film which was made to support the British war effort. It was a general release in the UK and was released on 23rd December 1916. It is an amazing mixture of cutting edge animation , outtakes, new footage etc. Our extensive research (ongoing) is leading us to believe that there is a possibility that Charlie Chaplin had a hand in the creation of the film. Thanks for all the interest Morace Park

Wow, Mojo, that is really exciting! Isn't it a miracle that after so many years new facts keep popping up relating to this great actor?
