I saw Jennifer Tilly on Regis and Kelly. She will play Louella Parsons in 'The Cat's Meow.' They showed a clip of the film in which she meets Chaplin. I don't recall the actor's name, but he was way too husky looking to play the slight figure of Chaplin. I was hoping to enjoy this film, now I'm not so sure. There just is no substitution for the real deal. Robert Downey, Jr was as close as it gets I'm afraid.

I found the actor's name - Eddie Izzard, British stand-up comic. Yikes!

Thanks for the article, Enter(?!) But has anyone in here seen this film yet? Is it entertaining if not accurate?

) yet.

Eddie Izzard was on the Leno show about ten days ago, along with a clip.

Izzard looked nothing like Chaplin in the clip (He was obviously wearing a rug.), and he seemed to be trying to seduce a reluctant Marion, which is pretty much diametrically opposed to the facts as I understand them regarding both parties.

And of course no one has ever proven that Chaplin was even on board for that trip, though he was certainly on the yacht frequently.

So much for truth, which Izzard, whom I found rather disgusting, claimed they were telling.

No, I haven't. It opens in Los Angeles on Friday. Here's a link to some early CAT'S MEOW reviews:

Hi,

Here's another link you might find interesting. It's from an Eddie Izzard web site and has lots of material on 'The Cat's Meow:'

Thanks for the link Richard. Sounds like a disappointment for Chaplin fans... From Laura Kelly of the Sun Sentinel:

'One casting misstep, and the film's most glaring letdown, is Brit comedian Eddie Izzard, who plays notorious romancer Charlie Chaplin minus the requisite charisma. It's the film's ultimate downfall, but the parties are scrumptious.'

I guess I will have to wait until the wider release in two weeks to see it. Kansas City must not be big enough for the initial one *sniff*
