Connie posted the Carl Sandburg poem 'Without the Cane and the Derby (For C.C.)' on Halloween 1996. I was wondering when Sandburg wrote it.

Thanks, Hannah

My copy comes from the _Complete Poems_ and doesn't have a date on it. I believe he visited Hollywood about the time CC was working on _The Kid_, but I'm not positive about that. You can get the approximate date by reading a good recent biography of Sandburg. In fact that's how I found out about the poem. Can't remember the author, but believe it was a woman. She reported that Sandburg visited CC at his studio, waited while he took a shower after work, etc. I think the info was from Sandburg's papers.
