The Cineteca di Bologna (http://www.cinetecadibologna.it/) has released a beautiful bilingual book on LIMELIGHT, apparently the first in a series accompanying their 'Project Chaplin' restorations. A few .pdf sample pages are available on their website, however I haven't been able to figure out where to purchase the book online (I picked up a copy in Pordenone).

Yes, that's correct. Extracts from the novel were also among the supplements of the LIMELIGHT 'Legacy of Laughter' LaserDisc. Don't worry

Is the title 'Footlights' or 'Limelight'? I wonder if these are both novelizations of the film? (Rather than what CC actually wrote).

Given his immense talent, I couldn't put it past him. However, using the term 'novel' for 'Footlights' may be misleading, as it was never intende for publication, but to make the backstories for the characters as complete as possible. At least this is my understanding.

I have two versions of it. The French one says the novel itself is written by one Roger Grenier after the script by Chaplin. Published in 1953. The German one lists only Chaplin as the authorand it was published in 1954..

This is interesting. Have you read them? How long are they? Do you think they are ghost-written by somebody else (as the French novel seems to suggest)? I'd like to hear more about this!

Best regards, Hakan

I'm with Phil. I think they're both novelizations of the film. Both titled 'Limelight.' The French is 287 pages with film photos included here and there. The German is 260 pages but no photos. Hakan, if you're interested, both are easy to find on used book databases and are fairly cheap. www.addall.com is great because it shows you all the available books throughout the world, so you might start there.
