A while back we were talking about good music for the Chaplin films. I wanted to bring to everyone's attention the piece called LE BOEUF SUR LE TOIT. It's French for 'the bull (or ox) on the roof.' Strange title for Chaplin music, but it was a piece written in 1919 by Darius Milhaud specifically for silent comedy films, if not, in particular, Chaplin Films. Eminent Chaplin authority Charles Silver has said that this piece can be used for any Chaplin film. The variations within its Brazilian themes usually tie up nicely with whatever activity is going on in the movie

I remember back in the 70's, PBS had a series called 'The Silent Comedy Film Festival.' They used this music during EASY STREET and THE IMMIGRANT. I remember Adolph Green was guest for that show, and Herb Graff hosted it.

I'd love to see a revival of that show

Herb Graff is at Castle Hill Films in NYC You may be able to contact him there about the show. In recent years, he has been recovering from a stroke so I'm not sure if he keeps regular hours anymore

I lost all faith in them when they got rid of MST3K.
