Can it be true? Guess not, because here are a few more.
I was intrigued by all the negative descriptions of the quality of the suspect soundtrack. I mused, 'What if this turns out to be the old track, and the titles are wrong? In that case, it appears that to a number of people who don't know what it is, the sound quality of the original soundtrack is definitely lacking, and has faults which some were ascribing to the Davis track.
If those who champion the original track can't distinguish it from the Davis track themselves, then all arguments about which track the film should have seem rather nugatory.
The orignal track has historical importance and must be preserved, but the Davis track indisputably has better sound. And that's the reason for the 'slavish imitation.' For some lovers of Chaplin, sound quality greatly enhances their enjoyment of his music
