I thought I was in the silent movies group when I posted the above. DARR!! (Loud pirate voice.)
My repudiation is recinded. That WAS an off topic post.
(I still think you need to lighten up, George. Your post was JUST as off topic.)

McCarthy's virulent brand of anti-Communism started back in 1949. And in an infamous Feb. 1950 speech before an audience in Wheeling, West Virginia, he held up a sheet of paper claiming that there were 205 Communists in the State Department.

But the transcripts referred to in your post date from l953, after the GOP took over the Senate in the 1952 election and McCarthy gained the chair of a Senate security subcommittee.
Chaplin had left the country by then.
Your post has no bearing on Chaplin's beef with the Truman administration and McGranery.

The transcripts are about the character and motives of Joe McCarthy. More than any other individual, he helped to poison the political atmosphere of the 1950s that led to Chaplin's banishment. That's why it's called the McCARTHY era and not the McGRANERY era, George.

Then everything I bring up about Chaplin's left-wing views on the Cold War, Soviet Russia, Communist China, Castro, etc are equally

I think Joe Stalin rather than Joe McCarthy did more than any individual to poison the political atmosphere of the 1950s.
It's typical of the moral bankruptcy of the left (and Chaplin) that they worried more about a junior Senator from Wisconsin than a dictator armed with nuclear weapons who had over-run half of Europe.

Not within the United States, certainly. We tore at each other like a pack of hungry wolves. And it had far more to do with payback for the FDR years and anti-Semitism than finding any elusive 'Communists'.
Joe McCarthy did more damage to the U.S. than Joe Stalin could have dreamed of doing, and Stalin was dead in 1953.

Because the left came out of the closet as 'anti-fascists' sympathetic to system just as bad as fascism.
Oh, is that why his heir, Truman, supported loyalty oaths and confronted the Soviets over Berlin and Greece?
This is such a slur.
I guess you forgot about Hiss, the Rosenbergs, Sobell, Harry Dexter White and the Venona intercepts.

By the time of the Witch Hunts, American Communism was already dying on the vine. And most of those persecuted by McCarthy weren't even Party members.
Truman was no FDR, or liberal. And I'm talking, of course, about what happened internally

Ding, dong the wicked witch hunts...what would you ever do without them? You'd have to read some history and use your brain.
It's all a diversion. The problem is, the non-democratic left was dead wrong about communism but instead of being honorable and admitting that, they trot out the boogeyman of McCarthy

It would have helped if you'd actually >read< the article, rather than relying on your far-far right revisionist Shelpshit.
It wasn't a mere 'diversion' to the many people involved. Granted, no one McCarthy summoned went to jail
