I have seen the Brownlow-Gill restoration of '25, which is not only as complete as presently possible but far superior in picture quality to the Voyager ld.
Subsequently I purchased the Fox disc of '42, and was quite impressed by the quality of the image. Both the picture quality and framing are far superior to the videotape transfer.
Though some adjustment was necessary to accommodate the soundtrack in '42, nothing significant is missing from the left side of the picture. This is not always true of Chaplin films which were transferred by other people to another format. Chaplin used the entire space within the frame (as you apparently have noticed) and often put significant objects on the left side of the screen, but he was aware of his own practice, and seems to have taken care in redoing his film that nothing essential was left out.
