I'd like to se what Tom comes up with for an FAQ also. But doesn't an FAQ also include what constitutes on and off-topic postings? Is that something we should arrive at by consensus? A better question might be - do I think we'll ever reach a consensus on anything here?

If I understand usenet correctly, the guidelines in the charter can be specified in the FAQ, but the FAQ cannot alter or supersede the charter.
May I ask why so many people refer to this thing as 'an FAQ'?
I don't see a vowel anywhere requiring the insertion of the 'n,' unless you are pronouncing this 'an eff-a-que.' I'm wondering why anyone would do that. I think of it as an acronym, like NATO, rather than something analogous to FBI.

Because I pronouce it 'eff-a-cue' and would use neither 'a' nor 'an' but rather 'the' with NATO and FBI but regardless would use 'a' with NATO because of pronouncing it 'nato' and 'an' with FBI because of pronouncing it 'eff-bee-eye'

I wonder how we're going to decide how to pronounce FAQ, since it doesn't exist on the internet in spoken form.
I suppose I also think of it as being like DOS, which is usually pronounced 'daws' or 'dose' rather than 'dee-oh-ess.'
