It was reported to us that beloved film historian David Gill passed away today, 9-29-97. He died of a massive heart attack and was in his early 60s. This is the initial news concerning this tragedy. We extend our deepest sympathy to his family and Photoplay Productions. A partner of Kevin Brownlow, he was a giant in the field of film preservation and will be desperately missed.

Silently yours,

Diane MacIntyre, President Spike Lewis, Publisher 'The Silents Majority' The On-line Journal of Silent Film http://www.mdle.com/ClassicFilms/ 'Speech may be musical, but silents are magical'

This is indeed very sad news! What a talented man! He did a lot to provide us with information on the early film era. My sympathies to all who were close to him!
