Has anyone heard anything about improving on the film quality of Chaplin movies ?. If they can improve on the old faded Star War movies then they should be able to improve on the Chaplin movies. Has anyone come across a computer colored Chaplin movie ? I enjoyed watching the movie 'One AM' but some parts of the movie was very dark, did others find this also. With digital methods these days, al least movies will last longer.
regards Brian

I know that Ted Turner colourized a few scenes of 'The Tramp' when he was first experimenting with the colourizing of movies...but these were never released pubilicly to my knowledge. That is the only known colourization that I have ever heard of dealing with Chaplin Movies.
David Sheppard has done wonderful work restoring the old Chaplin movies. The man is a wizard!

Yes, of course the images can be improved - Criterion's before and after demonstration on the 'Seven Samurai' DVD, for example, clearly shows how specks, tears, and scratches can be removed from damaged film. Unfortunately, this is bound to be an expensive process, and one that's unlikely to be performed on public domain films which have a limited sales potential.
Perhaps that was the print you were watching - I never noticed a problem on 'One A.M.'
