Since Charlie didn't drink, maybe the person who invented made something so repulsive nobody would want to drink it??? I know, I'm out on a limb here, right?

Chaplin did drink. Early in his life he didnt believe in drinking, he found it repulsive since it did kill his father. But a few times in his autobiography he says that he got drunk. He wasn't a drinker though. An occasional beer or wine, but not a binge.
