Did anyone else catch all the CC clips during the various screen presentations on the Oscars the other night? I caught clips from Mutuals and I think Essanays and Keystones, as well as the final scene of CITY LIGHTS, which was in the tribute to editing montage (??)

I think the scene from CL was shown along with a song with the lyrics 'for the first time.' It wasn't a bad association, but the print looked like someone had dragged it to the ceremony behind a truck.

I really did enjoy this AA, mainly because I'm a Coenhead of long standing. I think CC would have liked the Coen brothers' films.

Binoche is great also

I'm a bit fed up with last years and this years use of film clips as a 'backdrop' for the 'of the moment' talent. This is not a critisism of the talent itself but of the obvious prevailing attitude that the talent in the foreground is more important than the talent on the celuloid in the background. I'm sure that we missed a few snippets of Chaplin/Keaton as the camera panned away from the 'live' screen to follow the dancing on the stage. They should use a split screen so the at home audience doesn't miss portions of the montage (as I find myself looking past the 'talent' - straining to see what's going on behind them
