I was just wondering if any of you knew the whereabouts of Charlie's kids today. A friend and I were discussing this: These kids have the genes of Charlie Chaplin and of their grandfather, Eugene O'Neill, who is considered the first great American playwright. This is perhaps one of the richest artistic gene pools around... so how are they using it?

Just wondering.

Hello!!

Well, I hope that I can answer your question with as much accuracy as I belive I have. Some of this, by the way, comes from one of my favorite books about Chaplin, intitled 'Charlie Chaplin Remembered' by Jerry Epstien. Some of this comes from searching through a computor program, containing newspaper and magazine articles from all over the US and the world, at my former university Geraldine, the first child of Oona and Charlie's, and who's name I can't spell correctly, was living in Spain the last I heard. She has probably had the most successful film career of the Chaplin children (Doctor Z., Home for the holidays) Micheal, the troubled youth that Charlie had some problems with, is now living, if still today, would be at the Manior in Vevey, Switzerland, with his wife and EIGHT children. Whew! Next, Josephine, whom I may know the least, is in Europe with her family and I'm afraid that is about all I know of her lately. Victoria and her husband, Babtist, and their son, have a circus act that they do in europe. (France if memory, or accuracy, serves.) Eugene, who also lives in the manior, if he still is, with his wife and children, owns a video shop of some kind and holds a movie festival in Vevey every year, about in July I think. Anne, who lives in France I think, has, in the past, been asked to imitate her father, which she finally did by recently doing som esort of musical about the tramp. She also, I believe, was in a tv movie. Jane, who most recently graced her presence at a Chaplin showing, lives in Orlando Florida and I believe works at Universal Studios. Christopher also lives somewhere in Europe and, although has had some stage experience, has been writing screen plays I believe. Well, since I don't have access to the wonderful world of University facilities anymore that is about as much as I have and can remember. LiKe I said before I hope that I am correct, and if anyone knows alot about the children please chim in!! I love to hear about them and learn more about what they are up to.

Very Appreciated, Jodi

I just read Joyce Milton's biography of CC (called 'Tramp: The Life of Charlie Chaplin'. It lists the whereabouts of CC's children, all but one (I think) are still alive.

In fact, the last 10 or so pages are all about his children.

It's the first bio I read on CC, and I found it pretty interesting, but I still cannot understand the deportation (maybe I read too fast, as hurricane Lili stormed through my vacation in the Bahamas), but you get a better idea than you get by seeing Attenborough's film. (In fact, the author notes some comments on the film's historical accuracy.) I guess since I was not alive during this time period, it is not really possible to understand the policital climate.

Right you are, Barney.

Milton's is newer but it certainly isn't better.

Howdy gang. The only Chaplin Kid that I know about(and she may be a grandkid) is Victoria Chaplin. She and her husband have a strange stage show called the Invisible Circus. Lots Of mime and magic and dance.

Victoria is a daughter, I believe the one for which CC wrote _The Freak_.

I've not been fortunate enough to see this show, but have heard very good things about it. Where did you see it?

Such a wealth to choose from!

I don't know if other members of the group would find this as interesting as he did. In her discussion of Chaplin's list of political recommendations in 1931 (Shrink the government, etc.), she says that he presented these ideas to Ramsey McDonald, the labor leader

Your husband's right to be livid over Milton's book.

Unfortunately, for many reasons, I don't find Robinson's book to be much better. It's as pedantic and boring as Milton's is sloppy and biased.

The best books on Chaplin are still Theodore Huff's, Charlie Chaplin Jr's book (*wildly* underrated, but it's the one that gives you the best sense of what he was like in real life), and Chaplin's Autobiography

Connie, I can't imagine you spending a decade writing about anyone else but Chaplin. Who's this biography *about* anyway?

Is it too soon to order an advanced copy?
