I have in my possession a guestbook from the Crown Point Chalet, a guesthouse that once existed on a bluff above the Columbia River near Portland, Oregon. On April 16, 1923 I found the following entry: Charlie Chaplin.....Hollywood Pola Negri..........Hollywood Douglas McLean......Hollywood Theda Bara..........Hollywood Charlie was obviously with Negri, they were engaged at the time. What was the relationship between McLean and Bara? They were a long way from home up in northern Oregon. Did McLean and Bara have an affair?

Curious as hell!

Birthday party? I do believe charlie was celebrating his 34th birthday at the chalet. Born April 16, 1889.

I don't know a thing about Bara and McLean, but it certainly looks like a birthday party. And these people were a long way from home, at a time when Chaplin was still shooting _A Woman of Paris_.

I'm as mystified as you are, but what a provocative piece of information! Thanks for sharing it with us.
