Chaplin Studio

We know that Red Skelton owned it after CC left the US, and it was a facility for hire until A & M took it over.

But what about the period when CC owned it. What other pictures, if any. were shot there? Do the studio papers survive and who has them, the Estate?

The 1955 season of 'The Adventures of Superman' was filmed at the Chaplin Studio. Jack Larsen ('Jimmy Olsen' was there when the remains of the 'Modern Times' machinery set was torn down. He says it all ended up in the garbage.

On January 22, 1951 Ezra Goodman wrote an article for the Daily News, reproduced in the Summer 1997 issue of Limelight as part of a compilation history/chronology of the studio. Here's a part of the Goodman article.

<<The Charles Chaplin studio is a small, neat, rather old-fashioned movie plant at La Brea and Sunset. It has been there since 1918 and on its modest premises have been made such screen classics as 'The Kid,' 'The Gold Rush,' 'The Circus,' 'City Lights' and 'Modern Times.'

The other day I took a personally conducted tour of the studio with Roland Totheroh, who photographed all the aforementioned films, and who has been Chaplin's director of photography for 35 years. Totheroh, a dapper gent with steel grey hair, told me all about the history of the Chaplin studio as we strolled through the grounds in the balmy afternoon....

...'Chaplin finally consented to rent the studio out so it wouldn't become dilapidated. Cathedral Pictures just finished a religious film. Some television movies have also been shot here.
