from the Postal Bulletin 21962 (1-1-98)

<<The Postal Service will issue a $4.80 Celebrate The Century 1910s Souvenir Sheet, in a gummed pane of 15 (item 5538), on Feb. 3, 1998, in Washington, D.C. The stamps go on sale nationwide the same day.

Designed by Howard Paine of Delaplane Virginia, and illustrated by Dennis Lyall of Bridgeport, Connecticut, the souvenir sheet features subjects from the following categories during the 1920s: People & Events, Arts & Entertainment, Lifestyles, Sports, and Science & Technology,. The 15 commemorative stamps in this sheet are titled: Charlie Chaplin's Little Tramp, Federal Reserve System 1913; George Washington Carver; Armory Show 1913; Telephone Spans the Nation; Panama Canal Opens 1914; Jim Thorpe, Star at Stockholm, Grand Canyon National Park 1919; U.S. Enters World War I: U.S. Boy and Girl Scouting Begins; President Woodrow Wilson; First Crossword Puzzle 1913; Jack Dempsey Wins Title 1919; Construction Toys; and Child Labor Reform.>>

The image on the Chaplin stamp is a 'grinning' head-shot in the Tramp costume and make-up, very probably from the Essanay period.
