I'm obsessed with the tiny little things in Chaplin's movies that I have picked up after viewing the same films over and over. Was wondering if you all had any answers for these nagging questions.

1) In Monsieur Verdoux, is that Chaplin's Summit Road house that is shown from afar near the beginning and labeled Villa Sans Souci, or a villa in the south of France, something like that?

2) In Woman of Paris, when there is a long shot near the end of the country house that Marie and Jean's mother go to to care for the orphans, this looks to me like nearly the same shot that is first presented as Pretzelburg in The Great Dictator. Is it and if so, is this a location shot or somewhere on the studio grounds?

3) Also in W of P, is Marie's apartment building in Paris (the scene in which she throws the pearls out the window) a location shot or a studio shot? I have an old book called _Hollywood Crazy Quilt_ that is written by an LA tourist about her 1922 visit to Hollywood and interactions with various stars there at the time. She mentions W of P location shots being filmed near her hotel downtown (near a park) and I wondered if this might be the scene.

4)Glenn Mitchell (Chaplin's A to Z) is insistent that Albert Austin does not play the doctor in Sunnyside. Sure looks like Albert to me. Any opinions?

5)Is the 5th harmony singer outside the Bachelor's Club in Pay Day really Allan Garcia as David Robinson claims?

6)I feel strongly that the bum from whom Charlie takes the cigar on the street in City Lights is John Rand? What do you think?

7)The IMDB lists San Francisco as a location for City Lights. Is this correct and if so what scene was shot there?

Okay, I think that's all for now.

Best,

If it's that similar, probably a location that was re-used, given the time lapse.

Could be. There's definitely location shooting involved.

Yes.

Don't think so.

I'm busy right now but will print this out and check some of the others later. Thanks for raising some interesting questions.
