I was wondering what you meant by 'the mountain-climbing sequence?' That's something I've never seen.

There's a scene at the end of reel 1 where Charlie dons a mountain climbing outfit to try and get up the stairs. This and several other scenes are missing from the currently available DVD edition and common home movie prints of 'One A.M.,' although several copies are known to exist (I've never seen the thing, alas!).

I have seen it, and don't think it improves the film. In fact the footage in the print I saw looks like it might be outtakes cut back in rather than part of the original cut.
