Do you think it's really autographed by Charlie? The seller seems to be a Chaplin fan and I can't imagine why he/she would part with such a special item...

Thanks..

The signature looks authentic, but it's hard to tell if it's printed or stamped on the photo or hand-signed. It's a later signature - the still is from the 1959 Lopert re-release. For what it's worth I've never seen a lobby still (which this is) with a printed-on signature.

As for why he's selling - sometimes people need money and have to part with possessions, however treasured. Sad/true.

I just meant that I did, so you don't have to. Actually she seems to be a nice person and genuinely believed the piece was genuine. I'm expecting other scans of the piece and the story of its provenance, but if you look at it you'll see it's a hopeless case.

God, what a creepy picture! ... Well, no. That OBVIOUSLY isn't CC. In fact, these people look German to me. What's even weirder is that Charlie obviously wouldn't sign a photo that's not him - but why would anyone else forge his signature on a photo that's not him either? It would have been far easier to find a real photo of CC to sign, that wouldn't have made people suspicious on the basis of the photo alone.

If you hear back from the seller, please report.

Yeah and it's up over $150 now with 17 bids. I pity the naive person who 'wins' it.

Will do.

Yeah, it's kind of hard to see the signature in the photos. You can make it out, but not enough to really study it. If it is fake (which it looks like it probably is) it really ain't a bad one! It would be a nice piece if it were genuine though.

Don't you have a jpg viewer like ACDSee? Yoi can save the pic and view it larger. The signature looks nothing like CC's.
